Land Suitability Assessment and Landuse Planning: A Prerequisite for Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation
Though Ghana’s crop yield growth rate was at 17%, 5% of every 1.2 million Ghanaians have insufficient and limited access to nutritious food. Climate change and climate variability have enormously affected the state of agricultural productivity and hence could result in food insecurity. As many ongoing projects use Boolean suitability analysis, land use planning, management recommendations sores, it still remains inadequate to support rural resource poor farmers. This then, is affecting livelihood and agricultural productivity. In this paper, a geostatistical quantitative method to support a geographic information system (GIS) based on multi-criteria decision support system (GMCDSS) for an enhanced land suitability assessment (LSA) and landuse planning (LP) was devised. -

The Electric and Magnetic fields for workers in a data centre in the Greater Accra Region was assessed. The fundamental objective was to determine the levels of the electric and magnetic fields and to assess the extent of exposure of workers in the data centre to these fields. -

Evaluation of Pearl Millet Varieties for Adaptation to the Semi- Arid Agro-Ecology of Northern Ghana
Field trials were conducted at the Manga Agricultural Research Station near Bawku in the Upper East Region to evaluate nine genotypes of Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] for adaptation to the Sudan Savanna agro-ecology of northern Ghana. The varieties are: Arrow, Bongo Short Head, Bristled millet. SOSAT-C88, Tongo Yellow, GB 8735, ICTP 8203, B9_Tabi and Manga Nara a local check (farmers’ variety). The experiment was established as a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. All standard agronomic practices and data as recommended for Pearl millet production in Ghana were adhered to. -

A random assessment and human risk analysis were conducted on 80 groundnut pastes and raw groundnuts from some local markets across the different agroecological zones of Ghana. -
Onchocerciasis Transmission in Ghana: Persistence under Different Control Strategies and the Role of the Simuliid Vectors
The World Health Organization (WHO) aims at eliminating onchocerciasis by 2020 in selected African countries. Current control focuses on community-directed treatment with ivermectin (CDTI). In Ghana, persistent transmission has been reported despite long-term control. We present spatial and temporal patterns of onchocerciasis transmission in relation to ivermectin treatment history. -
The status of fish diversity and fisheries of the Keta lagoon, Ghana, West Africa
The fish and fisheries of three fish landing sites around the Keta lagoon in Ghana have been studied. A total of 18 fish species belonging to 13 families were encountered in the study. Four of the species were found to be commercially important notably, the cichlids (Tilapia guineensis and Sarotherodon melanotheron), the Bonga shad, (Ethmalosa fimbriata) and the blue-swimming crab, (Callinectes amnicola). -
