Non-cancer risk assessment from exposure to mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) in boreholes and surface water in Tinga, in the Bole-Bamboi District, Ghana
The study assessed non-cancer human health risk from exposure to mecury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), copper (Cu), and lead (Pb) in surface and groundwater in Tinga, in the Bole-Bamboi District. A total of 42 water samples were collected for a period of six months. Mean concentration of Hg, Cd, and Pb were found to be (0.050 ± 0.04 mg/L), (0.031 ± 0.02 mg/L) and (0.07 ± 0.05 mg/L), respectively. -

The World Health Organization (WHO) aims at eliminating onchocerciasis by 2020 in selected African countries. Current control focuses on community-directed treatment with ivermectin (CDTI). In Ghana, persistent transmission has been reported despite long-term control. We present spatial and temporal patterns of onchocerciasis transmission in relation to ivermectin treatment history. -
Potential effects of warmer worms and vectors on onchocerciasis transmission in West Africa
Development times of eggs, larvae and pupae of vectors of onchocerciasis (Simulium spp.) and of Onchocerca volvulus larvae within the adult females of the vectors decrease with increasing temperature. At and above 258C, the parasite could reach its infective stage in less than 7 days when vectors could transmit after only two gonotrophic cycles. -
Application of vertical electrical sounding for groundwater exploration of Cape Coast municipality in the Central Region of Ghana
The focus of this study is to delineate groundwater-bearing zones for the drilling of boreholes to ensure sustainable water supply in the Cape Coast municipality using the vertical electrical sounding (VES) technique.
