Maintenance of government buildings in Ghana: the case of selected public residential buildings in Ejisu-Ashanti

An out-of-sample portfolio allocation study is undertaken. We find that our simple and positive-definite covariance Building maintenance has become a topical issue for discussion in recent times as it's essential to increase the life span of buildings. Building maintenance seems expensive such that it is sometimes advisable to rebuild than to repair. Government residential buildings are not far from this unbearable maintenance cost issue. There is therefore the need to help set sustainable approaches to mitigate the high cost of maintenance work on buildings. The study therefore, seeks to assess the state and possibility of maintenance works on public residential buildings in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The survey combines both qualitative and quantitative methods relying on questionnaire and structured interviews to seek residents' opinion. The study focuses on public residential buildings employing purposive sampling technique for the survey. The findings revealed that absence of planned maintenance policy and improper maintenance, pressure on facilities vis-à-vis age of the buildings cause elements of building such as doors, windows, ceilings, cables etc. in deplorable state. In conclusion, ways to mitigate the situation such as the introduction of sustainable maintenance policy, introduction of innovative building system, the use of quality materials and professionals for maintenance among others were suggested for sustainable housing provision.
