Abstract
Josephs reported hyperlipemia with high intake of vitamin A as well as with carotenoids. Van Bruggen and Struamfjord, observed that long-term administration of large doses of vitamin A to patients raised their plasma cholesterol and phospholipid levels. Pallotta and Krause observed a rise in serum phospholipid levels with administration of vitamin A. Misra reported that plasma cholesterol levels were lowered a1d phospholipid levels elevated with the administration of vitamin A. The administration of vitamin A has also been reported to result in increased deposition of fat in the liver and also in various other organs. Misra observed an increase in the glyceride fraction of the liver lipids of rats given excessive doses of vitamin A. Singh et al reported increases in hepatic cholesterol but found no change in phospholipid levels with high inta¼e of vitamin A. Kordylas provided sufficient evidence to show that accumulation of tissue cholesterol is dependent on vitamin A.
