Effects of Sodium Metabisulphite and Blanching Pretreatments on the Quality Characteristics of Yam Bean (Pachyrhizus erosus) Flour
: ABSTRACT Aims: To determine the effects of sodium metabisulphite and blanching pretreatments on the quality characteristics of yam bean (Pachyrhizus erosus) flour. Study Design: Evaluation of the effects of peeling, blanching and sodium metabisulphite pretreatments on the ease of drying, particle size distribution, colour and pH of yam bean flour using a 2 x 3 factorial design. Place and Duration of Study: Yam bean roots were obtained from the CSIR-Crops Research Institute, Kumasi, Ghana. All reagents used were obtained from accredited suppliers in Accra, Original Research Article Buckman et al.; BJAST, 6(2): 138-144, 2015; Article no.BJAST.2015.074 139 Ghana. Actual experimental studies were conducted at the laboratories of the CSIR-Food Research Institute, Accra, Ghana, between August 2012 and November 2013. -
Potential effects of warmer worms and vectors on onchocerciasis transmission in West Africa
Development times of eggs, larvae and pupae of vectors of onchocerciasis (Simulium spp.) and of Onchocerca volvulus larvae within the adult females of the vectors decrease with increasing temperature. At and above 258C, the parasite could reach its infective stage in less than 7 days when vectors could transmit after only two gonotrophic cycles. -
Non-cancer risk assessment from exposure to mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) in boreholes and surface water in Tinga, in the Bole-Bamboi District, Ghana
The study assessed non-cancer human health risk from exposure to mecury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), copper (Cu), and lead (Pb) in surface and groundwater in Tinga, in the Bole-Bamboi District. A total of 42 water samples were collected for a period of six months. Mean concentration of Hg, Cd, and Pb were found to be (0.050 ± 0.04 mg/L), (0.031 ± 0.02 mg/L) and (0.07 ± 0.05 mg/L), respectively. -

Producing White Yam for the Export Market: The influence of Seed Sett Size and Planting Density on Tuber Sizes
The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of seed sett sizes and planting density on the tuber size and yields of yam. The treatments were arranged in a split-split plot design with two premium Dioscorea rotundata varieties (Pona and Dente) as main plot. Seed sett sizes (farmers' sett size 350 g, half farmers' sett size 175g) as subplot and Planting density (6944 plt/ha; 8333 plt/ha; 10417plt/ha; 13889 plt/ha; 20833 plt/ha) as sub-sub plot in 2014. Minisetts (50 g) a popular yam multiplication technique was added in 2015. -

This study set out to assess whether information security best practices are adhered to in Ghanaian government ministries and to assess their readiness for Information Technology (IT) disaster recovery.The sequential exploratory design was used to focus on qualitative data first via preliminary interviews, this was followed by the collection and analysis of quantitative data.
